Product page variants

Use Product page variants to review approved PDP layouts, confirm what is live, and understand how tests are measured.

What Product page variants are

A Product page variant is an approved version of your product detail page experience. It can change the order of page sections, the starting state of product information areas, and visual emphasis such as spacing or button weight.

Catail does not serve unapproved variants. Review and approval happen in the merchant console before a variant is eligible for a live test.

Before you run a test

  1. Install Catail on Shopify and verify the tracker is receiving events.
  2. Add the Catail Product page block to the product template you want to test.
  3. Open Catail merchant console → your project → Product page variants.
  4. Review the available variants and confirm they match your brand and product page intent.
  5. Approve the variants you want to include in a test.

Demo variants

New setups include three simple demo variants so you can verify the flow without waiting for custom generation: Classic PDP, Conversion focus, and Product story.

Use them for testing installation, previewing the Product page block, and checking that the merchant console shows variant status correctly. Replace or refine them before using variants as final creative decisions for a campaign.

How serving works for shoppers

When a test is active, shoppers are assigned to one approved variant for the session. Returning to the same product page in that session should keep the same experience.

If no test is active, or if a variant cannot be resolved quickly, the product page uses the fallback layout selected in Shopify Theme Editor.

Where to read results

  1. Open Catail merchant console → your project → Product page variants.
  2. Check which variants are marked Live.
  3. Review traffic split, views, purchases, conversion rate, and winner status once enough traffic is available.
  4. Use the main Dashboard for the broader sessions, add-to-cart, and conversion context.
